Common Questions

1. What steps do I take if I, or someone I know, is interested in finding out more about Willow Place?

You are encouraged to call us day or night to schedule a time to meet with our friendly staff.  Appointments can be made anytime, anywhere.  You are always invited to join us for a meal and a personal tour or perhaps attend one of our many fun events or activities.  Call or stop in for a visit as we would enjoy meeting you and finding out how we can help. We are happy to make home visits and can coordinate transportation as well if needed.

2. How does Willow Place determine what type of services the resident needs?

A comprehensive assessment is completed prior to move-in, after 30 days, and quarterly or upon a change of condition.  Input from the resident, their family and physician, assist in the development of an individualized Service Plan.  This plan identifies areas in which the resident requires or has requested assistance and notes resident preferences for how those services are to be delivered.

3. Are residents allowed to bring personal possessions with them?

Yes, our apartments are unfurnished and most residents want to bring their own furnishings to make their apartment feel like home.  Each apartment has a locking door and there is a locking cabinet in each room for personal items.  For those who cannot or do not wish to furnish the apartment themselves, arrangements can be made to furnish the apartment for them.

4. Can residents bring pets to live with them at Willow Place?

We believe that pets are an important part of home and family. We encourage prospective residents to talk with our director about the possibility of bringing their pet to live at Willow Place. Pets must be disease and pest free and have received all required vaccinations. Pets who pose a threat to the well-being of staff or residents are not permitted. Some charges may apply.

5. How does a resident get emergency assistance?

Each apartment is equipped with an emergency pull-cord system in several areas of each apartment.  The emergency response system activates pagers carried by the care staff. This system can also be retrofitted to be used with pendants that one could wear on their wrist or neck.

6. What safety measures have been taken to secure Willow Place?

The community is secured through a building alarm system day and night for the safety and security of our residents and staff. At all times, guests and residents can either enter a security code or call a friendly staff member to open the door for them. During evening and night-time hours, staff will be notified when entry or exit doors are activated.

7. Do you have visiting hours?

We do not have set visiting hours because the community is open to family members and friends 24 hours a day.  Obviously, it is best to plan your visit when it is most beneficial to your loved one. 

8. If I would like to eat with a resident how far in advance do I need to let you know?

We request that guests notify Willow Place 24 hours beforehand if possible.  We also have a private dining room that is available for special celebrations.  It is available on a reservation basis.

9. Does the community have a beauty shop?

Yes, beautician services are available at reasonable prices.  Weekly hours of services are posted and appointments can be made directly with the beautician.

10. What about Medicaid?

Medicaid may be a possibility for helping to afford the cost of care at Willow Place. Individuals need to meet certain financial and medical criteria in order to be eligible. For those individuals lacking in financial resources for care, contact should be made with the local Department of Human Services, Seniors and People with Disabilities office, or Area Agency on Aging to explore programs and services for which they may qualify. We can direct you to the appropriate agency.

11. How do the costs of living at Willow Place compare with in-home care or a nursing home?

Many view in-home care as a more affordable care option for themselves/their loved ones. However, add the costs of in-home services to the expenses you already have with home ownership and other outside service, and you may be surprised at what you find. Compare our costs to that of nursing homes and you’ll find the cost of assisted living is less than half the annual cost of a private room in a nursing home. 12. Can long-term care insurance help cover cost of care?

Yes! Long term care insurance can protect personal assets and inheritance for the family, provide greater choice in the selection of long term care settings (nursing and assisted living facilities) and generally provide for financial security. Recently enacted federal health insurance legislation has helped make private long term care insurance a more viable option for paying for long term care costs while preserving personal savings, choice and dignity. 13. Are there Veterans Disability Benefits that I could apply for?

Yes! The VA administers two disability programs, Compensation and Pension. Both entitlements have additional special monthly benefits that can assist eligible Veterans or their Surviving Spouses with the cost of care in assisted living. In many cases, Veteran's entitlements can provide from 20-50% or even more of the costs of monthly care with tax-exempt awards.  Willow Place uses the legal services of The Center for Elder Veterans Rights, a not-for-profit law firm, to help you understand your Veterans rights and secure these benefits. 14. Are payments to Willow Place tax deductible?

You, or the person paying for your care, may be eligible for certain deductions on your federal tax return, depending on the type of services and the level of care you require. Assisted living residents receiving personal care services may qualify for the deduction. An adult child paying for their parents’ care may also qualify for the tax deduction, if the parent is a dependent.
